Hi Everyone!
Last week I noticed the prices for Khans of Tarkir on Magic Online starting to go up. Since the prices stabilized since the release on Magic Online, the price has steadily dropped. This changed last week when the price started to creep back up.
So the $64,000 question is: Is it time to buy Khans of Tarkir yet?
There's a short and a long answer. The short answer is no. The long answer is an explanation of why now is not the time to buy.
The time to buy is going to be in December. The prices will continue a downward trend until then. You may also be able to snatch up some good deals from people trying to get Fate Reforged cards right when they come out. Trying to snatch the good deals always ends up being a bad time vs dollar return for me so I'd avoid it.
Wait a minute though! Why do I think Khans will continue to decline when it just started increasing in price? That's something that most people who deal exclusively in MTGO won't notice. Redemption. Redemption for Khans opened nearly a week ahead of when everyone expected (not that it opening matters to anything other than the spike happening earlier).
This is not a long term "price hike". It's going to die in a week or two and prices will be at the all time low in December.
I just wanted to point out that there are a lot of seemingly non-mtg (in terms of the card was played in X deck or works well with X card) related factors that change the price of Magic Online cards.
