The new Modern

Hi Everyone!

Now that Pod and those evil blue cards are banned from Modern, What's going to happen? I guessed at the beginning that Splinter Twin is the new best Modern deck. It was the only real tier 1 deck in the format before Khans came out. Jund hasn't been exactly tier 1 since Deathrite got banned.

I thought Jund could see a resurgence, but I have been seeing a lot of Junk (or Abzan) modern decks. It looks like white now replaces red in the BGx decks. This is happening because of Siege Rhino. At first I thought it was unlikely that white could be better than red. Red facilitated all the burn that took care of small creatures or finished off the opponent at the end of the game. White has Siege Rhino. I don't know if rhino is really that good or if it's hype (not to say Rhino isn't good, I just don't know if it's just that good).

Rhino does trample, it is resistant to burn (takes two of most burn spells to kill), drains opponent for three when it comes into play and gains you three life. It does do it all for real cheap, only four mana.

Keep an eye on Siege Rhino for to see if it's really a great four drop, or if it just worked well in Pod. My concern is that it may not be as good if you have to pay an actual four mana for it than if you pay one colorless and zero life and put a -1/-1 counter on your kitchen finks.

It may be the best four drop creature but it also may be prohibitive to cast due to being three colors. I think this is less likely to be a problem in Modern than Standard due to dual lands and all 10 fetches being available.

Anyway, let's look at Rhino in Modern and see what it does at Pro Tour Fate Reforged.
